In Tamale Central, the passing of our beloved Member of Parliament has left both a void and a responsibility. The people must now decide who will continue the legacy of service while bringing renewed energy and practical solutions to today’s challenges. The National Democratic Congress presents a candidate who embodies experience, vision, and heart. That candidate is Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba.

There is an old Dagbon saying: “If you do not know where the rain began to beat you, you will not know where to dry your body.” Leadership must understand history, roots, and struggles before finding the path to progress. Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba knows the story of Tamale Central because he was born here, nurtured here, and has carried its values wherever he has gone. From his early days as Library Prefect at Navrongo Senior High School to his decades of service as a professional social worker and political leader, he has been preparing for this very moment.

A Life of Service and Experience

Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba has over 25 years of professional experience in the UK as a qualified social worker, team manager, and safeguarding leader. He has worked with vulnerable families, youth, and communities, managing budgets, leading multi-agency initiatives, and ensuring the welfare of those most in need. This work equips him uniquely to tackle one of Tamale Central’s most urgent problems: the rising drug menace among the youth.

His plan is to establish community-based rehabilitation centres that provide counselling, skills training, and mental health support. These centres will be complemented by awareness campaigns in schools, mosques, and community spaces, educating young people about the dangers of drug misuse while providing them with constructive alternatives. He will work closely with local leaders, healthcare providers, and law enforcement to reduce supply, prevent abuse, and create a safe environment for recovery. Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba’s approach is holistic, combining prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation so that no youth is left behind.

Continuing a Legacy, Creating a Future

The late MP worked tirelessly for Tamale Central, and his memory remains an inspiration. Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba is ready to continue that good work while introducing new initiatives to meet the changing needs of the constituency. He is committed to fighting unemployment through apprenticeship and vocational training programs. He will also leverage diaspora networks to attract investment, create businesses, and open pathways for youth in agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Healthcare and community wellbeing will also be central to his agenda. By improving access to health facilities and establishing mental health programmes in partnership with local clinics and NGOs, Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba will strengthen both physical and mental wellbeing in the constituency.

Inclusive Leadership Rooted in Wisdom

Another wise saying from the North teaches us: “The man who climbs a good tree deserves a push.” Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba has climbed the good tree of service, discipline, and dedication. Now he deserves the support of Tamale Central to translate his experience into meaningful change.

He is approachable, respectful, and committed to listening to all voices: youth and elders, women and men, traditional authorities and religious leaders. His politics is not about imposing decisions but about collaboration, consultation, and community-driven solutions.

The NDC’s Strongest Choice for Tamale Central

The National Democratic Congress has always stood with Tamale Central. With Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba, the NDC is offering a candidate who combines professional expertise, political experience, and community trust. He is the man to continue the legacy of the late MP, to address pressing issues like drug abuse, unemployment, and healthcare, and to secure a future of opportunity and dignity for all residents.

A Call to Action

This by-election is more than filling a seat. It is about securing a future. Delegates and voters of Tamale Central, the choice before you is clear. With Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba, you are choosing continuity and innovation, tradition and modernity, roots and vision. You are choosing a leader who has proven his commitment to both Tamale Central and the NDC.

Let us stand together, as we always have, and push the man who has climbed the good tree. Let us rally behind Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba, the right choice for Tamale Central, the candidate of opportunity, dignity, and progress, and the leader ready to heal communities, empower youth, and transform our constituency for generations to come.

By Christian Aboagye, Social Worker, Mental Health Practitioner, Elected Governor for Greater Manchester Mental Health Services (Social Care Staff), Youth Organiser for NDC Manchester Branch.
