The Ewe community in Manchester came alive on Saturday, 11th October 2025, as the Manchester Ewe Group held its much-anticipated inauguration ceremony under the inspiring theme “Empowering Ewe Identity for Tomorrow in Manchester and Beyond.”



The event was hosted by Mr. Francis Aweso, who served as Host Chairman, together with his executives and members of the Manchester Ewe Group. It was a colourful celebration of Ewe culture, unity, and pride that attracted members of the Ewe community from across the United Kingdom and beyond, as well as a host of dignitaries and well-wishers.
Serving as Chairman for the ceremony on behalf of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, was Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Member of Parliament for Ho West. He commended the group’s initiative to strengthen Ewe identity in the diaspora. In his address, he underscored the importance of cultural preservation and unity among Ewes living abroad.

“Empowering our Ewe identity for tomorrow begins with celebrating who we are today,” Hon. Bedzrah said. “Let us remain proud of our heritage and committed to supporting one another as one Ewe family, no matter where we find ourselves.”
Hon. Bedzrah further called on the Manchester Ewe Group to take inspiration from the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) by fostering unity among Ewe groups in Europe and organising annual cultural events to promote cohesion and development within the Ewe diaspora.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Hon. Ludwig Hlordze, Director of Logistics and Protocol at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who praised the Manchester Ewe Group for setting a strong example of cultural organisation and community development. Hon. Hlordze also shared a special message on behalf of Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, congratulating the group on its historic milestone and encouraging continued collaboration between the diaspora and the homeland.
Hon. Hlordze further encouraged members to continue engaging the youth, promoting education, and contributing to Ghana’s progress even from the diaspora.
The event was further graced by several distinguished guests, including Hon. Emmanuel Drah, MP for Upper West Akim; Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu, MP for Akuapem South; Hon. Jerry Johnson from the Office of the President; Mr. William Asiama, brother of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr. Kofi Adoli, Chapter Secretary of NDC UK and Ireland , Miss Angela Aryee from the Ghana High Commission and some chiefs and queenmothers within the UK. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the growing impact of the Ewe community in the UK.
The atmosphere was filled with colour and culture, featuring traditional drumming, dancing, and other performances that showcased the richness of Ewe heritage. Guests also enjoyed authentic Ewe culture and an evening of fellowship that strengthened community bonds.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Bedzrah commended the organisers and encouraged the group to build on this strong foundation to promote unity, education, and cultural pride.
“This inauguration is not just a ceremony; it is a statement of identity, resilience, and purpose,” he concluded.
The successful inauguration of the Manchester Ewe Group marks a new chapter for Ewes in the diaspora — one grounded in unity, empowerment, and the celebration of cultural excellence.
