In the coming days, I’ll be writing about something that has long burdened migrants in the UK: the Immigration Health Surcharge.
It’s sold as a contribution to the NHS, but for many migrants—especially those working in health and social care—it feels like a tax on hope, a penalty for being foreign, and in its harshest truth, a form of financial bondage.

We call that a contribution. I call it a contradiction.
